5 weeks this Tues, my 76 has been in a local shop (Radius Restoration in Tuftonboro) getting a major restoration of the body. All glass out, trim all off, bumpers, fenders, doors, hood & trunk lid! My original intentions were to simply replace the driver door & both fenders with new, but after a local restoration specialist looked at the car 2-3 times, and then took it in last month, he made me aware of several areas around the car that needed rust repair. It quickly went into a full shake-down, stripping the entire body down hunting for any & all rust & bondo, dings, dents... 3 sections of rockers cut out & metal fab'd & welded in, firewall where the fenders bolt on were blasted, repair/primed & sealed... the roof was sanded/blocked & rounded out, driver side rear vent window had rust on the inner part of the rear channel/corner which was all cut out & replaced...

Last Wed (7/25) the body work was finally completed. Every panel as rust free as he could make them (insert 'impossible' here), smooth/flat/straight... The body was primed, primer sanded and Saturday finally received paint & clear! (Primer, base coat & 3 layers of clear. (~ 1 gallon of clear will actually be on the entire car)

This coming week, the hood, trunk lid & doors will be finished, everything wet sanded & buffed, then re-assembly takes place. It's seemed far too long, but considering what's been done, I cannot complain.

While this is all being done, new door brakes going on, headliner replaced, lots of trim & seals replaced... lot of parts that waited for this to happen. Can't wait for this to be done.

On my way home from the shop Saturday, talking to my father and he said "So after this is done, is it considered restored?" HA! I told him no.

Back to help with assembly.

Problems with the front of the knee trim hitting the fender. Local 02 friend says these were not BMW fenders, hence the alignment problem. Rear gap perfect:

...Front gap looks OK...but it hits.

More assembled.

Calling it quits for this night.

Went back on a Saturday w/ Bob N (thanks Bob!!!), to complete assembly, here's the car after I got home.

Straight 8-)

And a drive around Lake Winni tonight, to a scenic pull-off in Gilford. Car's running perfectly. And with everything straight, I no-longer have the whistling noise at higher speeds. I tried everything to get rid of that & never could.

Car looks amazing Scott.

I thought the whistling was a safety requirement from factory.
